Water Conservation & Restrictions : Water Saving Ways

Water Saving Ways

Following are some improvements you can make to save water:

Save Water Inside:

  • Keep a container of drinking water in the refrigerator
  • Turn faucet off when shaving or brushing your teeth
  • Take shorter showers
  • Run washing machine and dishwasher with full loads only
  • Periodically check all plumbing for any leaks (toilets, faucets, shower heads, water heater pressure relief valves, water softeners, irrigation, etc.)
  • Install Low-Flow toilets
  • Install Low-Pressure shower heads
  • Install a tankless water heater
  • Install water-saving aerators on all faucets
  • Replace toilets, washing machines & dishwashers with water-saving models
  • Reduce the amount of time that your water softener regenerates

Save Water Outside

  • Be sure irrigation system is working efficiently with no broken parts or leaks
  • Water in the early morning or late evening
  • Water slowly to reduce run off and to allow deep penetration
  • Use drought-resistant plants in your landscaping
  • Use compost or mulch around plants to help retain moisture
  • Keep grass longer in warmer weather to help shade the soil and root system
  • Use a pool cover to reduce water loss from evaporation
  • Be sure hose connections are tight to avoid water loss
  • Collect rain in a rain barrel for watering plants
  • Sweep off driveways, patios and sidewalks --- Don't hose off
  • Follow the Voluntary Water Restrictions when other stage restrictions are not in place
