Swim Lesson Policies

Weather Closures: It is District policy to close pools for half an hour after the last sighting of lightening. Other weather-related closures are at the discretion of the Aquatics Coordinator and Head Swim Instructor. In case of poor weather, please call the pool at which your lesson is scheduled to confirm if class will be canceled. The decision of whether or not to have class will be made 15 minutes prior to class. Pool staff will let you know at that time about make up classes. Make up classes are typically held the following Friday if it is within the session dates.

Other Pool Closures: In case of other pool closures such as mechanical problems, your instructor will try to reach you at the primary phone number on your account as soon as possible. Pool staff will let you know at that time about make up classes. Make up classes are typically held the following Friday if it is within the session dates.

Floatation Devices: Please leave your floatation devices at home when you come to swim lessons. Our instructors can best show you or your child how to swim without the impaired range of motion created by life jackets, "floaties," or other swim accessories. Goggles are welcome.

Class Descriptions

Parent & Tot Class (Ages 6 months - 5 years) - Offered May through September

These classes will help your child feel comfortable in the water, and teach fundamental skills such as breath holding and kicking. We will also cover safety topics such as getting in and out of the water safely with your child, and home pool safety topics. A parent or guardian must get in the water with each child, but doesn’t need to know how to swim. A second adult is also welcome.

Children's Swim Lessons (Ages 3 years -12 years) - Offered Year-Round

Small group lessons teach a progression of swimming and safety skills, corresponding to Levels 1 to 3 of the Red Cross Learn to Swim program. This class emphasizes skills such as floating, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and swimming underwater. On the first day of class, students may be evaluated to place them into groups of similar ability.

Beginning Swimming for Teens (Ages 13 years to 19 years) - Offered May to September

Small group lessons for teens will cover beginning through intermediate swimming skills at an age-appropriate pace. This class is taught in deeper water than children’s lessons.

Advanced Swimming (Ages 13 and older, except with prior approval) - Offered May to September

Pre-requisite: Students must be comfortable in deep water, and able to swim 25 yards of front crawl, 25 yards of back crawl, and 10 yards underwater.
