10/31/2012 - Wastewater Averaging

Wastewater Averaging

The District averages water consumption from November through February to determine the sewer bill for the next 12 months starting with your April bill.  Residents can control their annual bills to some extent by conserving as much water as possible during these four months.  Water use is typically at its lowest during winter because outdoor watering is minimal.  Nearly 50% of water use in Brushy Creek is attributable to irrigation. Now is the time to conserve water and reduce your water and waste water bills for the rest of the year.

  •     Turn off irrigation systems
  •     Take short showers
  •     Wash only full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine
  •     Check for water leaks
    • (check water meter when all sources of water are turned off.  If the leak indicator dial is turning, your plumbing system has a constant leak).

Common sources of water leaks include toilets, irrigation systems and water softeners.

Should you experience a water leak or fill a swimming pool during the averaging months, you will need to complete a Sewer Adjustment Form which can found on our website, bcmud.org, under Customer Service. You may also contact Customer Service at 512-255-7871 for assistance with sewer adjustments.
