7/9/2013 - RM620 Roadwork Update on Karst Feature Discovery

Karst Feature Discovery

The contractor managing the RM 620 Safety Improvement Project for Williamson County has discovered a karst feature between Cornerwood and Wyoming Springs.  The cave was found while installing a storm sewer line, and construction in this immediate area was stopped.  The County is working closely with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to determine the appropriate course of action over the next few weeks and to evaluate potential solutions.   All proper protocols and processes are being followed as it relates to the karst feature’s discovery.   With that in mind, there is no public access for safety reasons and to prevent unnecessary human contact with the cave.  Studies indicate that there are no endangered species in the cave.  Construction crews have moved to other areas within the project limits and work remains on schedule.  As the County learns more moving forward, we will notify you with any updates.

Thank You

The Williamson County Road Bond Team
