Brushy Creek MUD Wins 2020 Award for Innovation in Citizen Programming during COVID-19
Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District, a leader in Recreational and Utility Services, is a 2020 winner of the Technology Innovation Award given by AT&T and Government Technology Magazine.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Brushy Creek MUD leveraged technology to quickly respond to citizens' needs asking for safe activities for physical and emotional wellness.
When the ordinarily busy Community Center closed for two months in the spring of 2020, the District quickly modified programming to serve their youth, adult, and senior residents. Fitness class instructors live-streamed yoga and cardio classes so families could stay fit while quarantining at home. Youth counselors created fun videos to keep children engaged with cooking demonstrations, storytelling, and crafts. Brushy Creek MUD stayed connected to their vulnerable senior residents with Zoom coffee socials, virtual games, and check-ins.
The 2020-2021 school year began with virtual learning, and many parents struggled to be at home with their children while juggling work responsibilities. The District quickly responded by creating the Brushy Creek Virtual Learning Program to address working parents' needs requiring support for their children while they were away at work. The Community Center banquet rooms were converted to dedicated classroom space with socially distanced tables, tech support, and counselors to facilitate online learning for 30 students.
The dedicated Brushy Creek Board of Directors provided strong leadership during the pandemic, enabling the District to continue delivering excellent services and the high-quality Brushy Creek Life® to residents.
